April 21, 1924 - July 12, 2009

Elena P. Zullo- Randi

Elena Priscilla Zullo-Randi, 85, long-time resident of Savannah, GA, passed away Sunday, July 12, 2009 at Hospice Savannah with her loving family and friends around her.
Wife of the late Vincent J. Randi, Elena was born in Claremont, New Hampshire April 21, 1924. She graduated from Stevens High School in 1942 and moved to New Haven, CT in order to attend nursing school. She contributed to the war effort by becoming a cadet with the U.S. Nursing Corps and received a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Grace-New Haven School of Nursing in New Haven in 1944. While at school, after having known each other only six weeks, she met and fell in love with Jim and they married and spent 60 loving years together. After graduation, she worked at Saint Raphael's Hospital in New Haven as a registered nurse as well as handled private-duty assignments until 1971, at which time she and her family moved to Savannah when they purchased The Travelers Motel and Sandman Motel and then built the Abercorn Motel and Abercorn Shoppes. They worked side by side until his death in 2007.
Those left to treasure her many memories are her beloved children: daughter Sharyn Joseph Acampora of West Haven, CT; son, Lance Randi Gail Zettler; and daughter, Jamie Steve Carter, as well as Cindy Randi who held a special place in Elena's heart, all of Savannah, GA; and her beloved grandchildren, Carrie and Jackie Acampora of West Haven, CT; Craig Randi of Milford, CT; and Victoria Randi, Stevie Carter and Jordan Carter, all of Savannah, GA.
Elena loved taking care of people as shown by her choice of career: nursing. Anytime anyone was sick or in need, she was always there to help. She was loved by many and her life is measured by the many people whose lives she touched. Never did she forget someone's birthday or a special day. She will be remembered for her loving and thoughtful ways.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors, nurses, staff and therapists at both St. Joseph's Hospital and Hospice Savannah who cared for Elena during her many periods of illness as well as their thoughtfulness toward the family.
Mom, Grandma, friend and the many names you held, you were a fighter in life and at death. You now take your place in heaven with God and Dad where your eternal light will never be extinguished.
Friends may call on family at the church from 10:00 a.m. until time of service. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 18th at Saint Frances Cabrini Catholic Church, 11500 Middleground Road, Savannah, GA. Services in New Haven, Connecticut will be held at a later date. The family appreciates your continued prayers and support and requests in lieu of flowers, those desiring may make donations to Hospice Savannah or St. Jude's Children's Hospital in her memory.
